Money Miser gets the nod in Typewriter Cup
The running of the $1.25-million Typewriter Cup, a three-year-old and upward Overnight Allowance contest takes centre stage on Sunday’s nine-race card.
Fifteen runners will compete over 7 ½ furlongs (1,500m), promising a thrilling and competitive event.
The Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide evaluates each runner’s chances:
1. LABAN: (7 b h by Sensational Slam – For Trixie) – A hard-knocking campaigner, Laban finished fourth by 6 ½ lengths behind Fearless Soul on August 17 over 6 furlongs. Laban is expected to run well here.
2. JUSTIN BIDEN: (5 ch g by Lion Tamer – Wagon Wheel) – Capable on his day, but Justin Biden is unlikely to contend in this one.
3. GILBERT (USA): (5 ch h by Jack Milton – Causin A Storm) – Saves his best for the straight; Gilbert is unlikely to win here.
4. CONUNDRUM: (6 dk b g by Sensational Slam – Kait’s Great) – No realistic chance of winning.
5. ALL FOR LOVE : (4 ch f by Nuclear Wayne – Princess Sallema) – Despite a disappointing 10th-place finish by 35 lengths on August 6 over 7 ½ furlongs,
All For Love is expected to be competitive here.
6. MARCH AND SHOOT: (5 b m by Nasheet – Lead Vale) – Finished fourth by 3 ¼ lengths behind Bern Notice over one mile (1,600m) on August 31. With distance no concern, March and Shoot should impact the outcome.
7. BERN NOTICE: (6 ch h by Bern Notice – Blufield) – Recent winner unlikely to repeat.
8. TIGRAY EXPRESS: (5 b h by Traditional – Kiri) – Out of his depth; struggles expected.
9. SISTREN TREASURE (USA): (4 b f by Brethren – Katira) – Finished fourth behind D Head Cornerstone and Rainsville over 9 furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on September 8. Sistren Treasure is capable enough to land the gambit and so she is expected to be among the top contenders.
10. BABYLIKE: (5 dk b m by Savoy Stomp – Ladylike) – Easy to bypass.
11. MONEY MISER: (4 ch c by Soul Warrior – She’s Traditional) – Fresh from a convincing one-mile win on August 31, Money Miser has trained fairly well since. He can repeat.
12. I REALISE: (5 b g by Northern Giant – Regina Royale) – Returns from a seven-month break. I Realise is going to need a run or two to regain form.
13. POSITIVE ID: (6 b h by Bern Identity – Bubble Gal Bubble) – No recent form suggests a winning run.
14. SONNY T AND CHIPPY: (5 b h by Savoy Stomp – Triniket Box) – Decent runner who is unlikely to disgrace himself.
15. PRESS CONFERENCE: (6 ch g by Twilight Time – Lady Shankari) – Consistent runner who is expected to play a significant role.
