Raddesh Roman’s stunning five-timer narrows gap to three wins behind leader Tevin Foster in jockey standings
Raddesh Roman delivered a resounding statement in his pursuit of a maiden jockey championship title on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
With a stunning five-timer, Roman significantly narrowed the gap between himself and current leader Tevin Foster to just three winners, setting the stage for an electrifying championship showdown.
Roman’s standout win came aboard Major Danger in the Thunderbird feature race, an Open Allowance contest for three-year-olds and upward over seven furlongs (1,400m).
Trained by Philip Feanny, Major Danger won by three and three-quarter lengths ahead of stablemate Fearless Soul (Paul Francis) and Sensational Move (Richard Henry) in a time of 1:25.4 (24.0 x 46.2 x 1:12.2).
Roman’s other winners were Unbelievable Force in the second race for Feanny;
Faith Downie in the sixth race for trainer Victor Williams; Pack Plays for trainer Ricardo Mathie in the seventh race; and James in the ninth and final event for trainer Spencer Chung.
“It is a wonderful feeling winning five races on a single programme,” Roman told the
Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
“To be honest, before racing, looking at the programme and the rides I am on, I was expecting a very good day.
“All went well and so I have to give Father God thanks. I must also give all the connections of the horses and my agent thanks as well. I am just continuing to put in the hard work and win as many races as possible,” Roman added.
With those winners, Roman took his tally to 95 winners behind leader Tevin Foster on 98 winners. Foster was winless on the day from six rides.
