ISSA bans Dinthill Technical players, puts school on probation after post-game fracas
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Two players from Dinthill Technical were banned from all Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association (ISSA)- run competitions for a year, a third was banned for three daCosta Cup games, and the Linstead-based school placed on three years’ probation, following a meeting of the Disciplinary Committee on Thursday.
The decisions were handed down following a hearing into a post-game fracas following Dinthill Technical’s 1-1 draw against McGrath High on Saturday at McGrath High.
Maalick Whyte and Shamair Hutchinson have been barred from competing in all ISSA-run competitions for one year, effective September 26 2024 and Tyrese Gowe has been suspended for three games, effective the same date.
Reports are that players were involved in a confrontation with the referee after the game and it was alleged one of them physically assaulted the official.
Dinthill Technical was also placed on three years’ probation and “therefore may be suspended from participating in ISSA competitions if there are any further breaches of our disciplinary code of conduct within the period of probation” a release from ISSA said.
The release also said, “The Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association reminds all its various stakeholders that we are committed to ensuring that all our student-athletes display the requisite decorum befitting their status as ambassadors of our schools and the various competitions in which they compete. We strongly condemn any acts of indiscipline and more so acts of physical aggression and/or assault on any match official.”
