Capleton has two projects in race for Grammy noms
Veteran dancehall artiste Capleton has had two projects submitted for Grammy consideration.
He is featured on the album Reggae Diaries Vol 1, which features a combination called This is How We Roll with Buju Banton and BL The Hook Slaya. The album has been submitted in the Best Reggae Album category, while the single has been submitted in the Best Global Music Performance category.
A Grammy submission is nothing new for the Jah Jah City singer as he was previously nominated for Best Reggae album for his solo project Still Blazing.
He is also featured on Damian Marley’s winning Halfway Tree album.
Capleton is not surprised that the album has been put up for consideration. He said: “It is a great album, and the fact that you get Buju Banton and I collaborating on a track is exciting to our many fans out there. It’s a compilation album, so I can only speak of the strength of the track with Buju. Buju is now very relevant in the United States with his tour, and our song unites us as artistes in a style from the 90s on a modern dancehall beat.”
And how does he feel about being considered for the Grammy and maybe even winning?
“When I make music I don’t think about the Grammy. I make music to strengthen and uplift people. It is an award that is given by my peers so I work with whatever they choose. There will be other local awards coming up so it’s all good,” he said.
This year been a very busy and rewarding said Capleton.
“After headlining City Splash in England and closing Reggae Sumfest I had a successful return of my show A St Mary Mi Come From. I did several shows in the Caribbean and the United States. My next major show is Reggae Love Fest at the Barclays Center in New York in November,” she shared. “I am looking to close the year with a bang because it’s been a very special one for me so far and I am eternally grateful.”
