WATCH: Heightened security operations in Westmoreland
WESTMORELAND, Jamaica – Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, Wayne Josephs says there will be heightened security operations across Westmoreland in the coming weeks to combat an upsurge in criminal activity.
“We have been experiencing a number of conflicts in and around Westmoreland and these conflicts have only served to heighten the tension within the area and have served to undermine the intervention efforts of both the police and our external partners,” Acting ACP Josephs, who leads the Criminal Investigations Branch, told journalists recently.
He said that security forces have recently been carrying out a number of operations and the offensive will continue throughout the coming weeks. At least two shotguns have so far been recovered and a number of violence producers have been taken into custody, Acting ACP Josephs said.
“Anybody who is out there that has any information, who knows where there is a gun or any person who the police may have interest in, pass on the information while we are still on the ground,” said the senior cop, adding “Seize the opportunity while you have the military and police within the space and pass on the information so we can do a thorough search and try to make it safer for you and your family.”
