Unstable weather conditions expected until midweek, Met Service says
KINGSTON, Jamaica — An area of disturbed weather associated with a broad trough across the western Caribbean is expected to generate unstable weather conditions across Jamaica for the next few days, the Meteorological Service of Jamaica (Met Service) says.
A flash flood watch has been issued for low-lying and flood-prone areas of St Thomas, Kingston, St Andrew, St Catherine, Clarendon, Manchester, St Elizabeth, Westmoreland, Hanover, St James and Trelawny effective until 5:00 pm Monday.
The system is currently located southwest of Jamaica.
According to the Met Service, the forecast is for periods of showers and thunderstorms, which may be heavy at times, to affect sections of most parishes, especially southern and north-western parishes Monday and through to the middle of the week.
It said strong gusty winds are also expected across southern parishes and offshore marine areas.
The service said fishers and other marine interests should exercise caution as sea conditions will deteriorate due to thunderstorms and strong gusty winds.
The Met Service will continue to monitor this system.
