Tropical Battery diversifies with Tesla
TROPICAL Battery Company has launched sales of Tesla electric vehicles through its subsidiary, Tropical Mobility. The company is also investing in comprehensive training for automotive technicians to provide expert after-sales support.
This move comes with Tropical Battery’s highly anticipated transition to the Main Market of the Jamaica Stock Exchange.
“We chose to focus on selling electric vehicles manufactured by Tesla for the passenger vehicle segment because they are proven, they are highly efficient and functional, and they have incredible performance,” said Tropical Battery CEO Alexander Melville.
Tropical Mobility has imported its first two Tesla Model Y vehicles for company use and is now equipped to provide comprehensive after-sales parts and service, cementing its position as a pioneering EV service provider in Jamaica. According to Melville, Tropical Group’s 360-degree energy ecosystem approach aligns seamlessly with Tesla’s innovative philosophy.
Tesla’s EVs require minimal maintenance, eliminating the need for oil changes and extensive servicing, making them an ideal fit for Tropical Mobility’s asset-light strategy. Taking convenience to the next level, Tropical Mobility plans to introduce remote service options, allowing customers to schedule servicing from anywhere, eliminating the need for in-person service centre visits.
“We are excited to offer advanced service and warranty support for the EVs we sell through our innovative remote service model. This approach will bring expert maintenance directly to our customers, eliminating the need for large service centres and making vehicle upkeep more convenient and accessible,” commented Melville.
Tropical Mobility’s growing renewable energy customer base is driving demand for electric vehicles. With many clients already generating and storing surplus solar power, the logical next step is to harness this clean energy for EV charging. As part of its commitment to the EV market, Tropical Mobility is supplying electric vehicles for several market segments, including electric motorbikes for transportation and last-mile delivery services, electric ATVs for the ecotourism sector, and electric buses for tour operators, transportation service providers, and destination management companies. The company is also working with local and regional stakeholders to develop its Tropical Recycles initiative, which will extend the useful life of EV batteries by repurposing them and ensure the responsible recycling of lithium batteries at end-of-life.
Earlier this year, Tropical Mobility signed a strategic memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Zero Emission RD, a leading Dominican Republic-based company. The partnership is part of efforts to advance electric mobility regionally.
“Our vision is to lead the way in sustainable energy solutions and revolutionise the future of electric mobility. We are excited about the opportunities ahead and remain committed to driving growth, innovation, and positive impact,” concluded Melville.
