Breaking news out of the UK!!
Adjani Salmon, BAFTA winner, Emerging Talent: Fiction in 2023, for his debut comedy drama series Dreaming Whilst Black can now add nominee, Sky Arts Awards for The Times Breakthrough Award to his already impressive credentials. The Awards gala took place on Tuesday, September 17 at the Roundhouse in north London and although Salmon was not declared the winner, SO2 continues to applaud his creative talent.
A feature in the Times newspaper, ‘Stars in our eyes_ meet the top talent to watch,’ contributed by Carol Midgley, ahead of the awards, hailed Salmon the writer/actor/director as one to watch:
Adjani Salmon brought an eloquent, funny and distinctive voice to television with his excellent comedy Dreaming Whilst Black.
The series tells the story of a young black man who quits his dead-end office job to pursue his dream of becoming a film-maker, making many serious points about racism and the struggle for opportunity along the way — but with a beautifully light touch.
This series itself was five years in the making, starting small as a YouTube
show that became a cult hit before moving to BBC3 and then BBC1 where it received critical acclaim.
Salmon was born in London in 1989 before, at the age of five, moving for a number of years to Jamaica, where he created comedy sketches with his cousins. Later he trained as an architect but decided to move into film-making, graduating from the MetFilm Schol in 2014. Witty and wise, this is a talent to be watched
What’s next for Salmon?
