St Catherine’s Patrick confident ahead of St George’s clash
St Catherine High School Head Coach Anthony Patrick says his team is expecting a tough encounter when they host former winners St George’s College in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association Manning Cup football top-of-the-table Zone G clash on Saturday.
St Catherine, who, with a game in hand, are currently second in the zone with six points, three behind St George’s College. Holy Trinity High are third with three points, followed by Norman Manley High and Papine High, who are both on zero points.
“We know that it is not going to be an easy one, but we are pretty confident of the task,” said Patrick. “We won our last game 4-0 against Holy Trinity, but we never looked the part in the first 45 minutes because we created a lot of chances. In the second half, we took full control of the game and went on to win it quite easily in the end.”
The Neville “Bertis” Bell-coached St George’s College have scored 19 times so far this season and are yet to concede a goal. Former Walker Cup champions St Catherine, who have also not conceded in the tournament, and have scored seven goals in their two matches.
Patrick noted that St George’s possess a very solid all-round side and St Catherine will have to ensure they put their best foot forward against them.
“I saw 15 minutes of their game against Holy Trinity, and they are a very good passing team, they are also a quality team. But we know what we have to do against them to get a positive result on Saturday.
“We have 11 players that will take the pitch, and we are looking forward to all of them carrying us to victory against George’s,” the veteran coach said.
