Glenmuir, Happy Grove open big leads in daCosta Cup
GLENMUIR High and Happy Grove High extended leads in respective zones in the Inter-secondary Schools Sports Association/Wata daCosta Cup football competition after both chalked up their fifth-straight wins on Friday.
Despite conceding for the first time this season, Glenmuir High beat Foga Road 4-2 in Zone I, while Happy Grove blanked Yallahs High 5-0 in their Zone L game.
Anchovy High also continued their bright start by beating Green Island High 3-1, their fourth-straight, to take sole leadership of Zone B.
Orane Watson and Orelle Miller both scored doubles for Glenmuir High as they opened a six-point lead over second-placed Garvey Maceo High.
At Hector’s River, Shevone Miller scored in the 29th and 70th minutes for Happy Grove as they romped to a big win over Yallahs High to lead Seaforth High by eight points.
Oshane Chambers opened the scoring in the 17th minute, Jabari Ellis scored in the 31st minute, and Tajay McZanna scored in the 90th minute.
Anchovy High improved to 12 points with their fourth win to take over the lead from Frome Technical.
In Zone A, Green Pond High beat Herbert Morrison Technical 2-0 take over the lead on eight points. They got goals from Demar Thomas and Kevin Wright.
Kenroy Thorpe scored a double for Maldon High to beat winless Irwin High 3-0.
There is a mammoth schedule of 27 games set for Saturday, with a number of mouth-watering matchups and at least 13 schools putting perfect records on the line.
Belair High and Manchester High are set to square off in Zone F, with both teams having won their first four games. Dinthill Technical and McGrath, both of whom have won their first three games, are to meet in Zone J.
Defending champions Clarendon College will also be going after their fourth win of the season, as will Frome Technical when they meet Zone B rivals Rusea’s High at Frome.
Munro College, who are also hunting a fourth-straight win, will hope to pour more misery over their arch rivals St Elizabeth Technical when they meet at Munro, while William Knibb Memorial, Spot Valley High, Holmwood Technical and Ocho Rios High are also seeking win number four.
