WATCH: Hannah Town gets free Wi-Fi
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Hannah Town in West Kingston now has free Wi-Fi service, courtesy of the Universal Service Fund (USF).
The service has been made available as part of the USF’s Community Wi-Fi Programme, which aims to increase access to the Internet across Jamaica’s 63 constituencies and allow for greater digital inclusion.
Kingston West Member of Parliament Desmond McKenzie lauded the USF for the initiative, noting that it will facilitate easier access to education for youth in the community.
“Education is the only vehicle that is going to take our children out of poverty into a world that recognises them for who they are and not where they are coming from,” Mckenzie said at the launch of the service recently.
“The (USF) must be congratulated, this is about the fifth community in the constituency where they would have provided the service,” he said.
Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary at the USF, Charles Young urged responsible use of the Wi-Fi service.
“We encourage you to responsibly use the services that we are providing because even though it is at no cost to you, it is a cost to us, and it is our hope that you use it to improve your daily lives,” Young said.
