Roman raves about Desert of Malibu’s dominant display in None Such Sprint
Title-chasing jockey Raddesh Roman is convinced that Desert of Malibu is destined for greatness.
Following her jaw-dropping 8 ½-length victory in the None Such Sprint Trophy feature on Saturday, September 14, 2024, Roman hailed the five-year-old American-bred chestnut mare as one of the best horses in training at present.
Desert of Malibu’s breathtaking performance in the Graded Stakes/Open Allowance contest left race watchers in awe. She effortlessly brushed aside the competition, covering 6 furlongs (1,200m) in a fast 1:10.1 (22.2 x 46.1).
Roman’s glowing praise underscores Desert of Malibu’s immense potential.
“She has a big future ahead of her,” he exclaimed. With her impressive speed, power, and dominating wins, Desert of Malibu is undoubtedly a force to be reckoned with in future races.
“I was expecting this from her and she did it very easily. I just hope she keeps sound going forward and I am telling you now, she is one of the best horses on the track at present,” Roman told the Jamaica Observer’s The Supreme Racing Guide.
Desert of Malibu quickly assumed the lead at the start of the race and with rivals struggling to keep pace, she led Is That A Fact (Robert Halledeen), Wall Street Trader (Shane Richardson), and Madelyn’s Sunshine (Tevin Foster) into the half-mile (800m) turn.
As the field approached the final stretch, Desert of Malibu shifted gears, unleashing a devastating burst of speed. Powering down the straight with effortless ease, she left her competitors in her wake. Wall Street Trader and Is That A Fact fought for the minor placings, finishing second and third, respectively, but Desert of Malibu’s supremacy was never in doubt.
“It was a very easy race as you could see. This horse has changed up a lot and I can tell you this is the best she has felt in her lifetime,” Roman said.
“I had only one issue coming into the race. We all know that she tends to give trouble at the starting gates and so it was just to keep her calm as much as possible. From she caught the break I knew the race was all over. Expectations for this horse are very high. I just want her to keep fit and healthy going forward,” he said.
