Teejay says stint with Romeich put him ‘on the map’
Dancehall star Teejay has hailed former manager Romeich Major for the role the entertainment executive played in boosting his career.
In a recent interview with podcaster Jae Edwards on Airtime with Jae, the Drift singer credited Romeich for taking his career to the next level while seemingly alluding to the reason behind his decision to leave the Romeich Entertainment camp.
“A Romeich buss Teejay whether we like it or not and we nah go deny that. A Romeich send we thing a road man,” he said. “Romeich did already have an organised and steady camp. We have the song but if Romeich never forward and say yute, come mek we structure down the thing and send the thing a road and print up we face pan some bus round town…cyah go round dat.”
Teejay, who has repeatedly stated that there was no ‘bad blood’ between himself and his former manager, reiterated that individual goals fuelled his decision to part ways. He expressed that as COVID took its toll on the entertainment industry, people grew apart and change was imminent.
“A just COVID shut down the world and everybody restart, so the whole a we get corrupt and who gone so, gone so and we just a do we thing,” he said.
“We hail each other when we see each other same way,” he continued.
In 2021, as rumours swirled that Teejay’s decision came after a realisation that his career was being stalled, Romeich bashed naysayers and said he had done everything he was supposed to do as a manager to propel the deejay’s career.
“Mi nuh know how uno fi look pon the artiste and say mi never do nothing fi him career. When mi sign dem, dem have less than 100k followers, dem have 800k and odd now. When mi sign dem, dem never have 100k subscribers, dem have 600k and odd subscriber. When mi sign dem, dem never have a work permit… dem have work permit and go tour the world,” he said at the time.
Teejay is now being managed by Solid Agency’s Sharon Burke.
