Stadium lights go dormant during Concacaf Caribbean Cup match
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Independence Park Limited (IPL) will once again be faced with questions after yet another issue with the lights at the National Stadium during Cavalier FC’s encounter with Haiti’s Real Hope in the Concacaf Caribbean Cup Tuesday.
Cavalier took a 1-0 lead into the halftime break. However, the second half was delayed after the break, which typically lasts 15 minutes, was extended to over 30 minutes after a tower of lights went dormant.
The game was eventually restarted after the lights were restored. No reason was given for the issue.
This is the third major issue with the stadium lights in 2024. The Reggae Boyz World Cup qualifier against the Dominican Republic was shifted from 6:30 pm to 3:30 pm after Concacaf declared the lights were not adequate enough to host night games.
Cavalier were also fined by Concacaf for their Champions League game against FC Cincinnati in February due to poor lighting.
