Haiti’s Real Hope defeat Cavalier FC 2-1 in Concacaf Caribbean Cup match
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Cavalier FC’s quest to advance to the semi-finals of the Concacaf Caribbean Cup suffered a setback after going down 2-1 to Haiti’s Real Hope at the National Stadium on Tuesday evening.
The reigning Jamaica Premier League champions took an early lead when winger Dwayne Atkinson converted a tap in from close range in the fifth minute.
The lead would last up until the hour mark when Real Hope’s substitute Rikanel Chery’s strike from six yards found its way past goalkeeper Jaedine White.
The game was turned on its head just four minutes later when the Haitian club were awarded a penalty which Steeve Mondestin converted comfortably to make it 2-1.
Substitute Kaile Auvray almost rescued a point in the 85th minute but his volley was cleared off the line.
Cavalier, who have one game to play, still top group A with six points but Real Hope close the gap as they move to second on four points with two games to play.
Fourth placed Police FC of Trinidad and fifth placed Arnett Gardens can also make ground when they clash on Thursday at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad.
Mount Pleasant Football Academy on three points from two games also remain in contention.
Only the top two from the group will advance to the semi-finals.
