The green-eyed monster of a man
THE jealous man is a character to be studied; boosted by his ego, he reacts to the very thought of betrayal by making calculated moves to out the fires. “Men, especially Jamaican men, don’t do well with betrayal, for them it’s an Adam’s apple kind of context, the thought of someome else benefiting from the forbidden fruit,” says lifestyle coach and actualisation specialist Yolanda Livingston. “To be blunt, Jamaican men can’t take bun.”
Why are they like this? They’re not sure, the men below confess, but these are the ways that green-eyed monster had them acting, when they came face to face with real or perceived infidelity.
Leo, 30:
I suspected that she was talking back to her ex who recently came back to Jamaica. I didn’t think she had actually done anything, but she started moving shady. So I cloned her phone and could read her messages. She had several inappropriate conversations with him, and others, and I only stopped watching because I could no longer afford the $15.99 monthly that I was paying the hackers to access her messages.
Conrad, 40:
I had my driver follow her everywhere, and paid him extra. She didn’t know. It was my way to keep an eye on my investment.
Floyd, 36:
I approached the man, man to man, and told him my woman didn’t need a male best friend since she had me now, and I knew where he lived, and knew people. It worked, and he left the friendship. She still doesn’t know why, and often talks about how her bestie just ghosted her.
Orville, 34:
I don’t see it as jealousy, more like being proactive. I have her on all my social media and I respond to every post she makes, just so people are aware, without me having to tell them, that she has a man. And she’s my plus one to everything, because I won’t leave the door open for anyone to just move in.
Matthew, 45:
We moved to this complex and she went on the citizens association committee, and was elected president. I knew the vice-president had a thing for her, it was obvious. I didn’t like it, and because of her position she would have to be working with several other men, so I listed the house under the quiet, and got a buyer that was paying twice what we bought the property for. She couldn’t say no to the offer. Now we’re renting until we purchase again, but I will no longer be buying into anywhere with any kind of committee or HOA, because she’s the type who will always want to serve.
