Thrilling conclusion expected in senior citizens domino tournament
THE Senior Citizens Domino Tournament is said to be a resounding success so far and Humbert Davis, first vice-president of National Association of Domino Bodies (NADB), is predicting a thrilling conclusion to the competition.
The third and final phase is set to take place on Monday at Jamalco Sports Club in Hayes, Clarendon.
“The game of dominoes is a powerful tool for cognitive development and social connection, and we’re thrilled to see its impact on the lives of senior citizens,” Davis told the Jamaica Observer.
“It’s amazing to see how the game can bring people together, stimulate their minds, and provide a sense of community and belonging,” he added.
Davis emphasised the cognitive benefits of playing dominoes, noting that “the game develops memory, enhances visualisation, and improves strategic thinking”.
“It’s a fun and engaging way to keep the mind active and sharp, and we’re seeing the positive effects first-hand in our tournament participants,” he said.
Organised by NADB and National Council for Senior Citizens (NCSC), the tournament has brought together teams from across the island, with the final phase featuring teams from St Catherine, St Elizabeth, Manchester, and Clarendon. The competition is expected to be fierce, with each team vying for the top spot.
Davis’s enthusiasm is palpable and he’s eager to see the seniors in action, showcasing their skills and passion for the game. With the previous phases setting the bar high, expectations are similarly high for an electrifying finale.
“Dominoes is more than just a game — it’s a way to build community, combat loneliness, and promote healthy ageing. We’re proud to be supporting the well-being of senior citizens through this initiative.
“Who will emerge victorious? The suspense is building and the stage is set for an unforgettable showdown,” Davis ended.
