Three females among seven killed in road crashes during week ending Sept.13 says ITA
KINGSTON, Jamaica— The Island Traffic Authority (ITA) is reporting that three females are among the seven people who were killed in motor vehicle crashes during the week ending Friday, September 13.
Among them is Shahine Nelson, the firefighter who was killed last week Friday when the Honda Fit motorcar she was driving collided with an International motor truck at the intersection of Brunswick Avenue and the Angels Toll Plaza near the Spanish Town bypass in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
Two other females who were passengers of public passenger vehicles (PPV) were also killed during the week. Additionally, a PPV driver, the driver of a commercial motor vehicle and a private motor car driver also perished in motor vehicle crashes during the week under review according to the latest statistics presented by the ITA on Friday.
Meanwhile, the ITA is reporting that 258 people were killed in 223 fatal crashes up to September 13. That figure now stands at 261 with Saturday morning’s fatal crash that killed Tivoli Gardens FC footballer Delano Daley, his sister and cousin. The early morning crash took place at the intersection of Eastwood Park Road and Burlington Avenue in St Andrew.
The ITA said fatalities have decreased by 12 per cent while fatal crashes have decreased by 18 per cent when compared to the similar period in 2023.
To date, males and females account for 85 per cent and 15 per cent respectively of the road fatalities as of September 13.
