Top 5 dancehall songs of summer
Several songs were released over the summer, each vying for the ultimate spot to become the season’s top song.
A poll conducted among several disc jocks and selectors, as well as radio personalities, assisted in the compilation of this final list, with each person highlighting their favourites based on airplay, feedback, and popularity.
Among those surveyed were DJ Rich Rocc and DJ Neil of The Edge 105 FM, DJ Smurf and DJ Collison of Irie FM, Di Lot resident DJ Josh Era, radio jock DJ Ali Patch, the in-demand Kevi The Kinetic, street selectors DJ Pickit and Kingstyle Energetic Boss, DJ K-Mix of Hyperactive Sound, DJ Deva Kidd, DJ Chaddy G, JJ Deadlock, DJ Jamdonn, and rising new sensations DJ TZ, DJ Kovert, DJ Zacky, and DJ Huntr.
#1 Big Breeze – Squash
Produced by Attomatic Records/6ix Real Records, this track has been a hit at parties. It is the comeback hit for Squash, who had been missing from the music scene for some time now.
#2 Haad (Fiesta) – Armanii
This track samples the beat from R Kelly’s song of the same name. It took the Kingston College alum to the top of playlists as well as several iTunes charts.
Prior to the release of Haad (Fiesta) Armani hit paydirt with songs such as Dunce Barbie and Party Time, but this — a joint production between DJ Mac Music and Crash Dummy Productions — has proven to be his biggest to date.
#3 100 Watt – Kraff Gad, DJ Mac, Crash Dummy
Another big joint from the Fiesta rhythm. Although the artiste born Tevin Randall created ripples with songs including Calm C, Sinna, OG Bobby Johnson and Rum Behaviour, 100 Watt is without a doubt Kraff’s standout track for 2024.
#4 20 Matic – Masicka
Dancehall kingpin Masicka rode into the new year with the hit-laden album
Generation of Kings, which was released last December via Def Jam Recordings. However, by June, one-off single 20 Matic, produced by Dunw3ll, took the scene by storm, making its way up several charts.
#5 Wuff Wuff – Javo Donn
The Porus, Manchester resident known musically as Javo Donn has been knocking on the doors for a breakthrough since he released trending songs including Celebration and Cheat Code earlier this year. Wuff Wuff, produced by Attomatic Records/Antuwang Music/Dan Sky Records/Hugo Boss Records, took him to the top of the pile, taking the obscure deejay into the spotlight.
Honourable mentions:
Old Skool, New Skool – Ding Dong, DJ Mac Music/Crash Dummy Productions
Gadfada – Valiant, Head Concussion Records
Shh – Intence, Countree Hype Entertainment
Likkle London – Iwaata, Troyton Music
