Three alleged cocaine traffickers in hot water
A Jamaican-born British woman, a Jamaican man, and a Dutch national are set to return to St James Parish Court this month on cocaine smuggling charges.
One of the three, Patrick Anthony Crawford, a 44-year-old carpenter/construction worker of Rotterdam, Holland, has already been found guilty after he was charged with possession of, dealing in, attempting to export, and conspiracy to export 13.5 pounds of cocaine worth $28.3 million.
Crawford was scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, but his attorney, Henry McCurdy, requested that the sentencing be postponed after receiving a social enquiry report.
McCurdy cited the need for further discussions with his client before proceeding with the sentencing.
The sentencing date was then pushed back to September 18, and Crawford ordered remanded by Judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton
The court was told that on May 9, about 5:00 pm, Crawford was in a queue waiting to be checked in on a TUI flight destined for Brussels, Belgium, when he was questioned and his luggage inspected.
During a search of his carry-on luggage, four rectangular packages were discovered in two hidden compartments made of carbon paper and transparent plastic. These packages allegedly contained a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine.
A subsequent search of his checked baggage also revealed two hidden compartments containing four packages similar in appearance and content to those found in his carry-on luggage.
He was subsequently arrested and charged.
In the meantime, Anatalie Duncan-John, a 45-year-old engineer of a Manchester, England, address, is jointly charged with John Pinnock, a self-employed resident of Barbican, St Andrew, with possession of, dealing in, attempting to export, and conspiracy to export 10 pounds of cocaine.
Duncan-John is being represented by attorney-at-law Christopher Townsend, while attorney-at-law Precilla Jennings is representing Pinnock.
It is alleged that Duncan-John was at Sangster International Airport in Montego Bay, St James, on August 16, 2023, preparing to board a TUI flight to London, when she was intercepted by narcotics officers.
Her two suitcases were searched, and cocaine was allegedly found in food items, which resulted in her being arrested and charged.
Pinnock was later arrested and charged after a WhatsApp conversation with Duncan-John implicated him.
The two are scheduled to return to court on October 29 when the trial is slated to begin. Their bails were extended until the trial date.
