KIG westward bound
Jamaica’s oldest automotive dealership, Kingston Industrial Garage (KIG), will expand to the western end of the island beginning in the first quarter next year.
The news was revealed by Judith Denton, sales and marketing manager, at the Friday, September 6, 2024 launch of their Subaru ‘Buy One to Win One’ Promotion at its Spanish Town Road showroom.
“We will be launching in Montego Bay early next year at a property that we’ve had for some time. Finally, we’ll be able to have a presence in western Jamaica,” Denton told the invited guests at the event.
She explained that the new showroom in Ironshore, while planned to be smaller than KIG’s Spanish Town Road headquarters, will provide the same functions, service, sales, and parts for the company’s brands.
“It won’t be a hub, like our main showroom, but it will have representation for all of our vehicle brands for sale purposes, be open to everyone for service, and this is what we really want to do, make our service second to none,” Denton shared.
She further explained that the expansion to Montego Bay was driven by a combination of demands.
“There are customers who drive all the way into Kingston to have a Subaru, a Ford, or a Jeep vehicle… for service to maintain their warranty, so we really wanted to meet them halfway, or where they are, with this new location,” she said, adding that the plans are complete for the Montego Bay showroom, and KIG will break ground as soon as all the pending permissions are approved.
In 2014 KIG began phased renovations to its headquarters, while the following year opening a second smaller showroom in the Cross Roads area of the Corporate Area and completing the HQ updates.
At the heart of the Buy One to Win One Promotion is the Subaru Crosstrek. Having started on August 30, the proceeding 50 vehicle purchases of either a Crosstrek, Forester, or Outback can be entered into the draw for the chance to win a brand-new 2024 Subaru Crosstrek. The winner is to be announced on January 31, 2025.
“We did not officially launch our Subaru Crosstrek in Jamaica. It was coming off the tail end of COVID, we were very much in an online space, and it never really hit the ground with a full hands-on experience,” she said.
The aim of the Buy One to Win One Promotion is to officially welcome it into the fold, boost the visibility of both the vehicle and the brand for its duration and beyond, and provide one lucky KIG Subaru customer a Happy New Year.
“Usually, we do something special at the end of year, never this special, but we really want to show those who are loyal to this brand some real love,” Denton said.
