Injured employees receiving highest level of care, says BK Jamaica operator
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Restaurant Associates Limited (RAL), franchisees of Burger King Jamaica, says it is in constant communication with the medical teams attending to the employees injured in Wednesday’s explosion at its New Kingston outlet, ensuring they receive the highest level of care.
In addition, the company said it is prepared to facilitate any necessary medical transfers should any of the victims require advanced treatment both locally and internationally.
According to RAL, all three employees who sustained visible injuries are currently in stable condition.
It provided the update in a statement on Friday.
RAL said one of the affected team members was discharged Wednesday afternoon after receiving treatment, while two others who sustained burns were hospitalised overnight at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH). It added that Thursday evening one employee who had been previously admitted to KPH was transferred to the Tony Thwaites Wing at the University of the West Indies.
“We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the public for the outpouring of support, well wishes, and concern for the victims and their families during this difficult time. Your compassion and encouragement mean a lot to the entire RAL and Burger King Jamaica family,” the operators said in the statement.
“We also wish to extend our deepest thanks to the first responders who swiftly arrived on the scene and acted with professionalism and urgency. Their efforts, alongside the brave members of the public who immediately assisted in caring for the injured and transporting them to the hospital, have been nothing short of commendable. Your quick actions made the difference,” RAL continued.
The company further expressed its wishes to meet with the good samaritan who promptly transported the injured employee to the nearest hospital.
“We are truly grateful for their assistance and would like to show our appreciation for their efforts,” the company said.
Noting that it is also committed to addressing the emotional well-being of the affected employees and witnesses, RAL said it has arranged professional counselling services for those directly involved in the incident, as well as for any staff who may have been emotionally impacted.
The company said it will continue to collaborate with the relevant authorities, as well as service providers to investigate the matter and implement any additional measures necessary to prevent such incidents in the future.
“Our goal is to ensure that the highest safety standards are enforced across all locations,” RAL stressed.
On Wednesday, six staff members of the Burger King, New Kingston outlet were injured in an explosion which was reportedly triggered by a gas leak.
Of the six employees, three showed visible signs of injuries, the company had said, while noting that all were taken to hospital for assessment and treatment. There have been no fatalities.
