Turn it down!
Man says he lit fire under house because neighbour’s music too loud
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A man who admitted he set a fire under his neighbour’s house is scheduled to undergo a court-mandated psychiatric evaluation.
Renardo Brown told the court his actions were retaliation against his neighbour who ignored his pleas to turn down the music.
The psych evaluation is slated to take place on October 2, allowing mental health professionals an opportunity to assess Brown’s psychological well-being and identify any issues that may have influenced his actions.
On Wednesday Brown, who is in custody, made a brief appearance in the St James Parish Court to face a charge of attempted arson.
“Mr Brown, how are you doing today?” presiding judge Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton asked the accused man.
“I’m not doing too bad,” Brown replied.
“The doctors are going to see you on October 2, and then you come back to court on October 9. I need to hear what the doctors are saying about you,” the judge told Brown before police officers whisked the accused away to the holding area.
The date of the incident was not disclosed, but the court was told that the complainant was at his house when someone alerted him to a fire underneath the building.
The complainant went to investigate and discovered a shopping bag containing a blue shirt on fire under the house. He extinguished the blaze.
The incident was reported to the police. Brown reportedly said, under caution, “Offica, mi talk to him about the loud music and him naah hear, so mi light the board.”
Brown was taken into custody and subsequently charged.
