Sensational Move poised to dominate Overnight Allowance contest
SLATED to compete in today’s $1.25-million, top-rated, Overnight Allowance contest, four-year-old chestnut colt Sensational Move is poised to dominate the field, having demonstrated exceptional prowess against formidable opponents in the past.
Following an impressive second-place finish behind Canadian-bred Atlantic Convoy, Sensational Move has solidified his position as the top contender in this three-year-old and upward event. Sensational Move (Sensational Slam – Money Move) was installed as the 4-5 favouirte but finished 3¾ lengths behind Atlantic Convoy over six furlongs (1,200m) on August 17.
With seven rivals vying for the top spot Sensational Move, trained by Gary Subratie, is expected to excel in the five-furlong (1,000-metre) straight contest. His impressive track record and recent standout performance make him the favourable pick to claim victory.
Sensational Move has previously triumphed over this same distance, defeating rivals by an impressive 4¼ lengths in a time of 59.2 seconds on February 17. Notably, that victory was achieved at the Open Allowance level, a class above today’s contest. Now, facing lesser foes, Sensational Move is expected to dominate the field with ease, making it a compelling choice for a comfortable victory.
While Sensational Move is the clear favourite, a quartet of runners could potentially disrupt his dominace. Chocomo, Milos, Taurus Boy, and Freedom Street are all capable of making the race intriguing, each bringing unique strengths to the table.
Chocomo is seeking his third victory over this distance from as many outings. He won at five furlongs straight on June 1, 2024 in a time of 1:01.3, and then on July 27 in a time on 1:00.2. However, a disappointing sixth-place finish in his last race over six furlongs has raised concerns about his chances, especially with the unfavourable draw at one. Chocomo is still expected to do well.
With recent displays of unwavering consistency, Milos demands serious consideration here despite not racing on the straight course since March. The presence of leading rider Tevin Foster in the irons speaks well about the stable’s confidence level.
Stepping down from Open Allowance company, Taurus Boy, who clocked 59.4 seconds over this distance on April 14 at the Overnight level, stands as a strong contender for success.
Freedom Street is a dark horse with a glimmer of hope. His recent form has been underwhelming, mired in a prolonged slump that has tempered expectations. However, it is crucial to remember that this contender boasts a strong pedigree, with a back class that hints at untapped potential. While caution is warranted given his current state, Freedom Street could yet spring a surprise with a resurgent performance. It’s not entirely implausible that this dark horse might suddenly rediscover his mojo, leaving rivals in his wake with a strong run. Though it’s a long shot, Freedom Street’s latent talent makes him a fascinating wild card in the contest.
