Man awaits sentencing after stealing computer parts
MONTEGO BAY, St James — A man who was hauled before th
e court after stealing 10 central processing units (CPUs) from Itel International in Montego Bay, St James, will learn his fate on October 2.
The judge has ordered a social enquiry report which will guide her during sentencing.
Arthnel Edwards plead guilty to larceny as a servant on Wednesday when he made his first appearance in the parish court before presiding judge, Natiesha Fairclough-Hylton.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place on August 1 at approximately 7:30 am.
At the time, the complainant — a surveillance supervisor at Itel — was informed by a colleague about suspicious activity detected on the closed-circuit television (CCTV) system located within the premises.
After reviewing the footage, the complainant discovered that between July 15 and July 25 Edwards unlawfully took 10 CPUs worth approximately US$300 each.
Edwards was detained by Itel security personnel, and the police were eventually notified, resulting in his arrest and formal charges being filed against him.
During the court session on Wednesday, Edwards presented the CPUs in question to be returned to the company. The items were examined by two Itel representatives.
Judge Fairclough-Hylton then asked for a social enquiry report and extended Edwards’ bail until October 2, when he will be sentenced.
