Grecian Light, Spirit of Light, Power From Above top contenders for Kenneth Mattis OD Trophy
A competitive field of 11 runners is set to contest the $1.25-million Kenneth Mattis OD Trophy, a three-year-old and upward Overnight Allowance event over nine furlongs and 25 yards (1,820m) on Sunday, September 8, 2024.
Here’s a detailed analysis of each runner’s chances:
1. D HEAD CORNERSTONE: (5 b h by Bern Identity – Soul Of The Heart) – Has been struggling in recent performances. D Head Cornerstone has been training well and should run a good race.
2. ANTARCTICA: (4 b c by Savoy Stomp – Jesse’s Favouirte) – Following a surprise win in the Caymanas Park 65th Anniversary Trophy, Antarctica is unlikely to repeat his success here.
3. GRECIAN LIGHT (USA): 3 b f by Girvin – Mo Zin) – Finished second by 2 ½ behind Fearless Soul over 6 furlongs (1,200m) on August 17. Grecian Light should not have any issue with the increased in distance here and could lead home rivals.
4. PROVOCATIVA: (5 dk b/br m by Protonico – Audacious) – After a disappointing eighth-place finish last week, Provocativa is expected to improve and run a better race.
5. SPIRIT OF LIGHT (ARG): (7 b h by Sebi Halo – Bil Boa) – Making his debut on local soil, Spirit of Light has been training well and is expected to perform well.
6. SISTREN TREASURE (USA): (4 b f by Brethren – Katira) – Consistently running good races, Sistren Treasure should put in another solid effort.
7. SUPER ALEX: (4 ch c by Admiral Alex – Jamaican Pharoah) – While doing well to reach this level, a winning run seems unlikely for Super Alex.
8. POWER FROM ABOVE: (4 ch f by Key To Power – Blufield) – Finished a good second behind Money Miser over one mile on August 31. P
ower From Above is going to love this extended trip and should not be left out of calculations.
9. RAINSVILLE: (5 gr g by Casual Trick – Fiftyshadesofray) – Cannot be recommended in current form.
10. SONNY T AND CHIPPY: (5 b h by Savoy Stomp – Trinket Box) – Expected to struggle, Sonny T and Chippy will likely be left behind.
11. KWAKU: (6 b h by Casual Trick – Darlin) – Has no realistic chance of winning.
