PM announces NE St Ann by-election
- Samuda resigns to pave way for candidacy
Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced that a by-election will be held in North East St Ann on September 30 this year.
Nomination day is September 11.
The Prime Minister also disclosed that Government Senator and Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Matthew Samuda, has resigned from both posts to facilitate his nomination as the Jamaica Labour Party’s (JLP) candidate for the constituency.
Samuda is expected to resume Ministerial duties should he retain the seat for the JLP.
Samuda will be moving to transition to the lower house of Parliament in a seat which was represented for two decades by the JLP’s Shahine Robinson.
Robinson’s successor, Marsha Smith, resigned with immediate effect on Monday paving the way for the announcement of the by-election.
