A man beyond titles
Dear Editor,
Our admiration and respect for him went beyond titles and prefixes for his heart was anointed with a selfless love for Caribbean humanity and his intellect possessed a character that needed no appellation.
His politics was not narcissistic. His stature defied measurement. His regionalism, although confined by geographers, was borderless in its principles and pragmatism.
We called him the Honourable Sir Shridath Ramphal for he was given that title by State and royalty. But beyond that national and Buckingham Palace reality was a man, a gentleman, a chancellor, who knighted humanity royally with integrity of thought and sincerity of deeds while placing a Caribbean song in our hearts and bestowing on us a self-confidence in identity and purpose despite the vestiges of history.
Rest well, Shridath Surendranath Ramphal.
