Grief counselling underway at 10-y-o Manchester crash victim’s school
MANCHESTER, Jamaica —Students and staff at Christiana Leads Primary in Manchester are receiving grief counselling a day after Grade 6 student Treavon Saunchez died in a car crash on his way to school.
His former Grade 5 classmates have written notes and created sketches in tribute to his memory.
Marsha Fennell-Bell, Education Officer QEC 46, said guidance counsellors from neighbouring schools are among those conducting grief counselling sessions.
“The region (five) stands resolute in supporting the institution at all times, especially now that our student has passed. Our Regional Director, Suzanne Nelson-Smith, was here yesterday with a team from the Ministry of Education. Today, we are here again with educational social workers, and we will be providing psychosocial sessions,” she said.
Treavon’s mother, a police constable assigned to the Christiana Police Station, remains hospitalised in critical condition.
