Jamal Lowe replaces Leon Bailey in Reggae Boyz squad for Concacaf Nations League
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Sheffield Wednesday winger Jamal Lowe has been called up to replace the injured Leon Bailey in Jamaica’s squad for the Concacaf Nations League assignments against Cuba and Honduras.
Lowe, 30, who has scored two goals in seven appearances for the Reggae Boyz, joins Shamar Nicholson, Norman Campbell, Michail Antonio, Demarai Gray and Kaheim Dixon in Jamaica’s attack.
Jamaica will face Cuba at 7:00pm at the National Stadium on Friday before travelling to play Honduras on Tuesday.
Bailey had not represented Jamaica since November 2023 after a self-imposed break, which followed a suspension from former head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson. He also declined a call up to the Copa America tournament in the United States this summer.
The 27-year-old Aston Villa striker mended relationships with the JFF after meeting with new coach Steve McClaren and was expected to make his return to the team but picked up an injury early in the first half during Villa’s English Premier League match against Leicester City on Saturday.
The England-born Lowe has so far scored one goal in four appearances for the Championships team and has represented clubs such as Portsmouth, Swansea, Wigan, Bournemouth and Queens Park Rangers in his career.
