SCHOOL BLUES
Traditional last-minute shopping marked the final weekend before the start of the new academic year. Parents and guardians flooded bookstores in particular, but many were frustrated by long lines, high prices, and unavailability of textbooks.
At the same time, the nagging problem of teacher shortage as well as incomplete repairs to some schools after the passage of Hurricane Beryl on July 3 have cast a cloud over the reopening of schools scheduled for tomorrow.
