Cops seize 836 rounds of ammunition in St Elizabeth
THE St Elizabeth police on Friday seized 836 rounds of assorted ammunition in Grosmond, Santa Cruz, in what commander of the division Superintedent Coleridge Minto said is one of the largest in the past few years.
There were 702 rounds of 2.2 cartridges; 85 9mm rounds; and 49 .38 cartridges, according to Minto, who said cops also found one 9mm magazine as well as a .38 gun handle.
The seizure has pushed to 1,263 the number of rounds of ammunition seized in the parish since the start of the year, said Minto — a far greater improvement over the same period in 2023 when 165 rounds were seized.
“This level of ammunition find underscores the point that there are people in this parish who are arming themselves for criminal activities; and we intend to go strongly after those who are committing criminal offences, and to build case files and bring them before the courts. We continue to appeal to those who are committing offences to desist and to seek an attorney so you can have your day in court,” he said while pointing out that no one was arrested in connection with Friday’s find.
“We continue to appeal to citizens in this parish to share any information you have with the police regarding those who are committing criminal offences, or even strange people you are seeing in your area,” Minto appealed.
At the same time he warned, “If you are challenged by the security forces, do not engage us. We are better trained, better resourced, and we will come out on top.”
