‘Babsy’ released from hospital
Cabinet Minister Olivia “Babsy” Grange was released from hospital on Saturday.
Grange, the culture, entertainment, and sport minister, spent almost a month at the Tony Thwaites Wing of the University Hospital of the West Indies, with a great part of that time in the Intensive Care Unit.
“Yes, Minister Grange was released from hospital today. She is doing well, in good spirits,” Government spokesman Senator Abka Fitz-Henley confirmed with the Jamaica Observer Saturday night.
“I would imagine the minister will take a few days to complete her recuperation then will be back in office imminently to continue some of the good work she has been doing even while she was hospitalised. I can’t underscore this enough, the minister has asked me to convey to people in Jamaica and across the world who have been sending in love support and good wishes that she is deeply appreciative of the sentiments,” Fitz-Henley said.
Grange, 78, who represents the St Catherine Central constituency in Parliament, had missed the Independence Grand Gala, the major event to celebrate the nation’s independence on August 6 because of her hospitalisation.
The gala is organised by her ministry.
