Afro B, Lahrel collab on new vibe
...shoot video on the Rock
Afrobeats star Afro B and fast-rising sensation Lahrel touched down on Jamaican soil on Wednesday to shoot the music video for a track titled Sit Down.
Both acts, who are from the United Kingdom, agreed that the island was chosen to accentuate the dancehall undertone of the unreleased song.
“We chose Jamaica because we just felt that the song was more fitting, you know? It’s an island vibe; it’s a dancehall fusion, you know. So we just felt like Jamaica would be the perfect place. Jamaica represents that well. So, yeah, that’s why we chose Jamaica,” Lahrel told the Jamaica Observer.
The video shoot took place at the Geejam Hotel in Portland.
Sit Down will be released on October 18, while the music video will follow shortly after.
Lahrel’s recent soulful ballad Witness, featuring international superstar Omi — known for the global hit Cheerleader — showcased her emotional depth and vocal versatility. Now, she’s looking to reach even greater heights with this multi-genre track.
“You know, we always try to create art and create something than we’ve done but better; something a bit more different. We don’t try to repeat ourselves. But, yeah, definitely we’ve tapped into dancehall before,” she said.
“We want it to boost to places that, you know. I’ve seen someone like Afro B, who I’ve worked with, and someone like Omi, who’s had major, major success in their songs, reach. We just want it global in different territories,” added Lahrel.
Afro B, who is globally known for hit song Drogba (Joanna), which peaked at #23 on the US Billboard, is no stranger to Jamaican culture. He has collaborated with many local acts, among them Busy Signal and Konshens.
“I just love the music, love the people, and everything. It’s been organic. So the people I collab with, there’s some form of relationship; it’s not a thing where it’s just random and then we come together,” he told the Observer.
He also encouraged emerging entertainers to follow a simple blueprint if they are looking for longevity in the industry.
“My main formula, I would say, is just have fun and don’t overthink. Stay consistent. Don’t always follow what’s trending, because usually what trends usually dies out,” he said.
