LIMA, Peru – Jamaica’s women’s 4x400m relay team advanced to Saturday’s final at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Lima after placing second in their preliminary race on Friday.
Jamaica were edged on the line by Colombia, running three minutes 38.04 seconds to grab an automatic spot with the South Americans clocking three minutes 38.01 seconds.
Abrina Wright gave the team a good start, handing over to Shanque Williams and Anecia Campbell who opened up a 25-metre lead.
Nahomy Castro split 52.65 seconds on the anchor for Colombia to catch Fletcher (55.10 seconds) inches before the finish line.
Williams later expressed her satisfaction in the team’s effort.
“I’m feeling good just to get into the finals, we are very proud, we’re extremely proud and thankful,” she said.
She admitted to feeling some fatigue, however, after running the final of the mixed 4x400m on Tuesday and also two rounds of the individual 400m.
