WATCH: St Elizabeth police seize over 800 rounds of ammo during operation
ST ELIZABETH, Jamaica— The St Elizabeth police have launched an investigation following a major ammunition find during an operation in Grosmond, Santa Cruz on Friday morning.
Superintendent of police in charge of St Elizabeth, Coleridge Minto, confirmed the incident, stating that 836 rounds of ammunition were seized. No one was arrested in connection with the seizure.
He stated that during the operation, which was conducted about 10:00 am, a premises in the community was searched.
Minto said at the end of the operation, a breakdown of the ammunition seized included 702 2.2 cartridges, 85 9mm rounds, 49 .38 cartridges, one 9mm magazine, one 2.2 magazine and a .38 handle of a weapon.
He stated that this is the largest ammunition seizure in the parish in recent years. The superintendent added that up to this time last year, 165 rounds of ammunition were seized in St Elizabeth, and so far in 2024, the count is up to 1,263.
“This level of ammunition find underscores the point that we have persons in this parish that are arming themselves for criminal activities and we intend to go strongly after those committing criminal offences and to build case files and bring them before the courts,” Minto said.
“We continue to appeal to citizens in this parish to share any information you may have with the police regarding those who are committing criminal offences or even strangers, persons that you may see in your area that you are unfamiliar with,” he urged.
