‘Realness’ in Stalky The Bratt
Popular dancehall artiste Stalk Ashley will today release her highly anticipated album Stalky The Bratt.
The 11-track project has Jax as executive producer with work from producers Stephen “Di Genius” McGregor, Anju Blaxx, and Mvssiah also featured.
“To be a Bratt is to be real all the time. It’s a vow to oneself to be the realest, truest version of themselves, all the time. That’s the vibe of the album,” the singer told the
Jamaica Observer.
The album features special appearances by decorated artistes, including Sean Paul and Valiant, as well as previously released singles Really Like U featuring Skillibeng, Brixx, and Senseless featuring Kraff and Skeng.
“This project is packed with bangers; there’s truly a song for everyone on here. One should listen with an open mind and ears as there are messages to be heard,” the singer added.
As the follow-up to her 2021 Atlantic Records-produced EP Excuses, this new project is intended to heal the inner children of listeners and create an enjoyable vibe overall.
“Imagine being 10 years old and meeting your future self, who is 15 years older. She’s the coolest girl ever! She looks like a life-size version of your favourite doll, a real life ‘bratt’. Now, imagine that version of yourself hugging you and telling you [that] you are perfect as you are, and your life will turn out just fine as long as you stay true to yourself. That’s what this project feels like — a warm hug with your inner child,” Stalk Ashley continued.
In anticipation of the release, the singer made an appearance at last Thursday night’s edition of Sound Check, where she reeled off songs such as Still On My Mind, a cover of Chris Brown’s Residual, Young, Dutty Casamigos, and her rendition of Tevin Campbell’s 30-year-old hit Can We Talk, which had the crowd on a musical high. She was also joined on stage by Valiant for an electrifying performance of their chart-topping hit Narcissistic, which was enough to send patrons into overdrive.
