Christie expresses full confidence as Thomas returns to Mount Pleasant Academy
Mount Pleasant’s sporting director Paul Christie has confirmed that Harold Thomas has returned to his role as director of the club’s academy following his brief stint as head coach of the Premier League team.
Thomas was removed from his head coach position after just one game in charge of the senior team, a 2-0 defeat to Cavalier in the Concacaf Club Championships earlier this month. He has since been replaced by Theodore ‘’Tappa’’ Whitmore, whom he succeeded in May of this year.
Christie stated that Thomas is back working with the academy’s youth programmes.
“He is back and ready, and he has returned to his substantive role as academy director. He will continue to perform his duties with the high level of professionalism we have come to expect from him,” Christie told the Jamaica Observer.
The director noted that Thomas had retained his responsibilities with the youth teams even while he was in charge of the senior team.
“He has always been the director of the football academy. He was doing a dual role with the first team, but he has now returned to his primary role as the director of football at the academy.”
Christie underlined his satisfaction with what he described as Thomas’ significant contribution to improving the overall quality of football at the academy and expressed confidence that the coach will continue to not only develop talented football players but also help shape them into outstanding individuals in society.
“He has been doing well in developing the kids at the academy and has consistently improved the way we play football here. His work continues, and we trust his leadership at the academy level,” Christie added. “He remains our director of football at the academy. He is also helping these youngsters become great citizens of Jamaica when they grow up.”
Meanwhile, Mount Pleasant revived their chances of advancing to the next round of the Concacaf Championships under Whitmore with a 2-1 win over Arnett Gardens on Tuesday at Sabina Park. The team now has one win and one defeat in their two group phase matches of the championships.
Their next assignment in the competition will take place away on September 26 against Police FC at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Trinidad and Tobago.
