Adrian Reid Jr ‘impresses’ at trials with Portuguese team Estoril
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The agents for national Under-20 captain Adrian Reid Jr are guardedly optimistic over the potential of securing a deal that would see the defender transferred to Portuguese Primera Liga Club, Grupo Desportivo Estoril Praia (commonly known as Estoril), after what they say was a short but successful try-out recently.
Kevin Cowan of International Dymension, the agency that represents a number of Jamaican players, told Observer Online on Thursday that because they were “only able to secure a very short Schengen visa, due to some issues beyond our control”, the trial period lasted less than a week.
Cowan, who also represents Kaheim Dixon, who recently joined English League One team Charlton Athletic, and Turkey-based Renaldo Cephas, said the agency took the decision to send Reid on the trials “because the opportunity was simply too good to pass up and fortunately we did, because he managed to make an impression on personnel at the club and they’ve informed me they may be interested in signing him”.
Reid, who also plays for Jamaica Premier League champions Cavalier SC, scored in the semi-final and was one of the stand out players on the Jamaica men’s Under 20 team that recently participated in the Concacaf Championships in Mexico.
“I cannot categorically say that we will manage to do the transfer during this summer window, because we’re in very early stages of discussions and time is really against us,” Cowan stressed. “In the coming week I’ll have a clearer picture of the situation, but I’m very optimistic.”
