JDF says it is fully cooperating with investigations into the death of fellow soldier
KINGSTON, Jamaica — The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) says it is cooperating fully with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and the Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) as they probe the circumstances surrounding the tragic killing of 20-year-old Private, Ejay Domville.
Domville was killed in the volatile west Kingston community of Denham Town last Friday. He was part of a team that was reportedly on foot patrol in area when he was shot in the vicinity of Charles Street and Chestnut Lane. According to police, a team of soldiers went in pursuit of men who opened gunfire at them, causing them to take evasive action and return fire.
When the shooting ended, Domville was found with what appeared to be a gunshot wound to the face. He was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

In a statement on Wednesday the JDF shared that while they are cooperating with the police and INDECOM, it will continue its internal investigations as uncovering the facts which led to Domville’s killing is top priority. The organsation also shared that it has contacted the family of the late Private and revealed that Domville’s mother will be present at the autopsy especially after questions were raised on whether or not the bullet that fatally struck the Private came from gunmen or members of his team.
“It is very important to us that there is full transparency regarding this unfortunate event. We acknowledge the concerns raised by Pte Domville’s mother, Ms Calisha Reynolds, and we are committed to working with internal and external stakeholders to ensure they are addressed in a timely manner. Arrangements have been made to ensure Ms Reynolds is present at the autopsy, and we will maintain continuous communication to ensure she is informed throughout the process,” the JDF’s release read.
The statement then went on to directly address the uncertainty around Domville’s death.
“The JDF also recognised the concerns expressed by the public regarding the possibility of Pte Domvilles death being the result of fratricide (killing of their own). We acknowledge that the complexity of a shooting engagement with threat force and split-second decision making can increase its likelihood. However, our pre-deployment training is focused on minimizing the risk of fratricide and ensuring the safety and well-being of our service members during a firefight,” it read. “ Pte Domville demonstrated exceptional bravery during the recent incident. Preliminary reports indicate that, even after falling and losing his helmet, he swiftly got back up and continued to advance towards the threat. We appreciate the public’s patience and understanding, as well as their support to the JCF and INDECOM in investigating this matter.”
Following his death, Domville was described by residents as a “good soldier” who would often encourage and uplift the youth within the community.
