World U-20 Champs: Deandre Daley, Gary Card into men’s 100m final
LIMA, Peru — Deandre Daley and Gary Card will line up in the men’s 100m final on Wednesday’s second day of the World Under-20 Championships in Lima, Peru after contrasting semi-final results on Tuesday.
Daley won his race in 10.34 seconds (-0.9m/s) while Card was third in his race in 10.39 seconds (-0.6m/s) and will seek to at least equal Bouwahjgie Nkrumie’s silver medal won in Cali, Colombia two years ago.
Thailand’s Puripol Boonson was the fastest in the semi-finals with 10.30 seconds followed by two South Africans — Bradley Nkoana, 10.30, and Bayanda Walaza, 10.33 seconds.
Dexter Lee was the last Jamaican to win the men’s 100m, when he defended his title in Moncton in 2010.
Claude Grant, who coached Lee, is also Daley’s coach and is in Lima.
