Remember lock-up duties, senior JP implores colleagues
TRELAWNY, Jamaica — Recently re-elected President of the Trelawny Justice of the Peace Association, Kenneth Grant is appealing for more justices of the peace (JPs) to make themselves available for visits to police station lock-ups in the parish.
He made the call shortly after the entire executive body of the Trelawny Justice of the Peace Association was returned en bloc during their first annual general meeting held at the Abundant Life Ministry Bounty Hall, in the parish on Monday.
“A lot of us have not been participating in the [police] lock-up checks and I want justices to know how crucial it is for us to do these lock-up checks. Because sometimes some of our own brothers and sisters are in these lock-ups and the conditions and the treatment are far below what it is supposed to be,” the outspoken Grant said.
“We need to perform our duty in ensuring that the persons in the lock up are being treated well. I try to press home to justices all the while, please let us do the lock up checks,” he added.
Other members of the executive body who returned en bloc include Junior Rutty, Carlton Gordon, Devon Brown, Marviet Webb and James Tweedie.
