Public urged to beware of ‘Freedom Street’ ticket scams after fake pages emerge”
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Less than 24 hours after it was announced that tickets for Vybz Kartel’s highly anticipated concert would go on sale this Saturday, a flood of fake pages related to the event has emerged on Instagram.
A search by Observer Online revealed four pages claiming to be the official social media accounts for the entertainer’s return concert, Freedom Street. At least one of these accounts already has more than 14,000 followers. On that page, titled “vybzkartel_concert,” followers are urged to send direct messages to facilitate ticket orders.
The fake accounts prompted Cordell ‘Skatta’ Burrell, a member of the event’s production team, to urge potential concertgoers to be wary of these accounts. I
n a post on his official IG page, Burrell revealed that there are currently no social nedia pages linked to the concert set for December 31 at the National Stadium. He further warned that any information disseminated via these fake accounts should be deemed unofficial and cautioned people to avoid being scammed.
“At the moment, there’s no IG page for the Freedom Street Concert. Any information from these platforms should be deemed unofficial. Don’t get scammed,” his post read.
Freedom Street will mark Kartel’s first live performance since his release from prison. The deejay spent more than a decade behind bars after being convicted of the murder of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams.
Tickets for the event are expected to go on sale at 3:00 am on August 31, 2024, and can be purchased online.
The tiers that will be available on that day include Bleachers, Grand Stand, In-Field, and Centre Stage.
