Changes expected for mixed relay team ahead of U-20 Championship final
LIMA, Peru—Changes are expected for Tuesday’s final of the Mixed 4x400m relay at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships after the Jamaican team ran 3:24.77 on the opening morning at a very cold Estadio Atlético de la Videna in Lima, Peru.
The team of Demarco Bennett, Nastassia Fletcher, Marchino Rose, and Alliah Baker finished second behind Germany, who clocked 3:24.10, securing an automatic spot in the final set to start at 7:05 pm.
Technical Leader David Riley told Observer Online that changes to the team for the final are likely, but the decision will be made later.
Meanwhile, Alliah Baker, who anchored the team, and Demarco Bennett, who ran the opening leg, expressed confidence that the team would perform better in the final.
“From my perspective, I felt comfortable,” Baker said. “I think we can do well in the final; hopefully, we can bring our ‘A’ game and go out and do even better.”
However, she also believed that the team performed well enough as is: “I think we are a good team, and I don’t see any need for changes.”
Bennett added that they “got off to a good start and got accustomed to the conditions, so we can go back out and do better.”
