Streetz Festival ends too soon
Fans still happy with Chronic Law, surprise acts
Despite an abrupt ending to the performances at the Chronic Law-headlined Streetz Festival held at the National Stadium Car Park on Saturday, patrons made the most of the night’s excitement.
Performances officially got underway at approximately 2:00 am on Sunday when host and selector Boom Boom introduced the headliner, who began his set with the track Proud.
The dim-lit venue immediately became more illuminated thanks to torches, as well as cellular phone lights, once the popular deejay touched the stage.
Chronic Law’s hundreds of adoring fans accompanied him in the lyrics to his songs, while staying on beat to the instrumentals being provided by the Ruff Kutt Band.
The artiste repeatedly proclaimed, “Nuff songs wi have” as he skipped through as quickly as he could to facilitate allotment for the extra performers. He sang other tracks like Almost, Badness Upgrade, Wanted Luv, and Corrupt Pt. 2.
The surprise artistes included Najeeriii, Deep Jahi, Skippa, Nhance, Nervz, Phenique, and Jahshii.
The latter hailed Chronic Law for his success in the music industry.
“Mi bredda a big artiste fi real, man! Legend inna true colours,” Jahshii announced during his cameo.
Unfortunately, approximately 45 minutes after performances started law enforcement officers called for it to cease because Chronic Law had continuously used profanity, despite being warned.
After the initial warning, he expressed remorse, but quickly became a repeat offender. Ultimately he said he did not see anything wrong with the so-called bad words and said a short thank you to fans for coming out before exiting the stage.
The anticlimactic ending did not sit well with some patrons, who believed that their appetites had not be satiated.
Nonetheless, many attendees were grateful for the experience.
“I wish he could’ve performed longer, because I’ve been here all night waiting, but it is what it is. I still think he’s a great artiste,” one patron told the Jamaica Observer.
Another attendee had similar sentiments.
“He’s one of the top deejays in Jamaica right now, so I feel let-down because the show just ended like that. But, I’m happy because this was my first time seeing him live,” she said.
Music was provided by ZJ Liquid, Coppershot, and Boom Boom.
