Tia Clayton wins first Diamond League race in Poland
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Olympic finalist Tia Clayton claimed her maiden Wanda Diamond League victory, running a wind-aided 10.83 seconds (2.9m/s) to secure first place at the Kamila Skolimowska Memorial at Silesian Stadium in Chorzów, Poland, on Sunday.
The event marked the 12th stop on the Wanda Diamond League series.
Clayton, who finished fifth at the Lausanne Diamond League—her debut on the circuit—on Thursday, clocked the same time as Ivory Coast’s Marie-Josée Ta Lou, with American Tamari Davis finishing third in 10.84 seconds in a closely contested race.
The 19-year-old, who placed seventh in the 100m final at the Olympic Games, commented after the race, “Going into this race, I just wanted to try my best, without any specific expectations. After the Olympics, I trained even harder than before.”
Natasha Morrison finished ninth in 11.07 seconds.
