Aircraft restrictions at Sangster International Airport amid repairs to runway
ST JAMES, Jamaica — Repairs taking place on the runway at the Sangster International Airport (SIA) in Montego Bay have caused aircraft restrictions.
In a release, SIA operator MBJ Airports Limited provided an update on the situation that had an impact operations at the airport during the course of Sunday.
“Please be advised that repairs are being conducted on a section of the runway at Sangster International Airport in the vicinity of Taxiway Delta,” MBJ said.
“As a result, aircraft restrictions are now in place in effect for landing and take off. Flights are allowed to land using Runway 25 and exit at Taxiway Charlie, which has resulted in disruptions in flight operations,” it added
While the nature of the repairs have not been ascertained, earlier in the day, MBJ had indicated on its social media platforms that the runway had been temporarily closed.
At that time, the airport operator said “Inbound flights will be diverted to NMIA”.
A few hours later it revealed that the runway was opened for the arrival of flights.
It’s unclear, however, how long it will before the resumption of full access to the runway.
MBJ has subsequently apologised for the inconveniences that stakeholders have experienced during the period.
