European top-flight football is back
JustBet offers Real madrid at odds of $1.45 to win the 2024/25 La Liga Championship
The 2024/25 season for the major European football leagues kicked off last week and some enticing games have already been featured. JustBet, the premier sports betting provider in Jamaica, offered outright odds for the new season as soon as the previous seasons finished in May, and with over 200 betting options for each football game there is something for everyone.
Here is a look at the top leagues in England, France, Germany, Italy and Spain, and the JustBet odds offered for the teams to take home their respective titles. Note that only the top 10 odds are shown for each league and are subject to change. A full list of offerings can be found on the JustBet website: www.supremegames.com/#/prelive
England (Premier League)
Manchester City start the season as slight JustBet favourites to win their fifth-consecutive title, but Arsenal have been knocking on the door for the past two seasons, and narrowly missed out in May. However, no team in Premier League history has improved their position five years in a row and Arsenal have already done it four years straight. Therefore, to go beyond this, the Gunners, Arsenal, will possibly need 90+ points this season (a tough ask but not impossible).
Only seven teams have won the Premier League from 1992 to present and Liverpool, Manchester United and Chelsea are included in that number. However, the departure of Head Coach Jurgen Klopp, Liverpool’s guiding hand since 2015, could take a toll on their final placing, and Manchester United need to avoid inconsistencies and injuries if they hope to attain the fourth-favourite position offered by JustBet.
Chelsea, on the other hand, have a new head coach in Enzo Maresca and though it will take some time for the team to gel, they should do better than the preseason seventh place assumed by the bookmakers. The departure of Conor Gallagher and the ‘sidelining’ of Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell appear to be extreme moves by the new coach, but the signing of Joao Felix this week should restore some offensive firepower to the team.
France (Ligue 1)
After hosting this summer’s Olympic Games, club football takes centre stage in France, and in its second season with 18 teams, and for the first time without Kylian Mbappé in a Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) kit, Ligue 1 looks set to be sternly contested up to the last week of the season.
PSG look seriously short of front-line quality without Mbappé, but this situation is not expected to last as they should sign one or two quality strikers by September. However, whoever they sign will not be Mbappé and there is a fair chance the team will be weaker, resulting in a tighter title race.
JustBet offers PSG as firm favourites to win their fourth-straight title, but heavy challenges are expected from Monaco and Marseille, particularly the latter, who persuaded former Brighton Manager Roberto De Zerbi to take the helm. A slate of new faces — including goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli (signed from Ajax), center-back Lilian Brassier (from Brest), midfielders Pierre-Emile Hojberg (from Tottenham), Ismael Kone (from Watford), and forwards Mason Greenwood (from Manchester United), and Valentin Carboni (from Inter Milan) — will bolster the ambitions of Marseille this season. Lille, Nice, Rennes and Lens are other teams to keep an eye on.
Germany (Bundesliga)
Bayer Leverkusen, under Xabi Alonso’s stewardship, won their first-ever Bundesliga title last season, ending Bayern München’s run of 11 consecutive league triumphs, clinching the title with several weeks to spare. Last season was one of Bayern’s worst in the modern era, where they failed to pick up a single piece of silverware for the first time in more than a decade, not even managing a top-two finish in the Bundesliga.
Coach Thomas Tuchel departed at the end of the last campaign, and after a lengthy search, Bayern appointed a new manager in Vincent Kompany, who was at the helm in Burnley for their relegation from the Premier League last season. That said, Bayern still has the strongest squad in the Bundesliga and JustBet has them favoured to put the exploits of last season squarely in the rearview, though Alonso and his charges will have desires of holding onto the crown for at least another year.
Italy (Serie A)
Over the last five seasons, Serie A has proven to be the most unpredictable of Europe’s top five major leagues, with no team able to successfully defend the title since Juventus’ dominant era from 2012 to 2020. Inter Milan were the runaway winners last season, capturing their 20th Scudetto, and JustBet has them favoured to defend the title, but Juventus is well positioned to make things difficult after making some quality additions to their squad during the off-season.
All the major rivals to the throne have changed their managers over the summer: Juventus selected Thiago Motta, AC Milan brought in Paulo Fonseca and Napoli appointed former Inter Milan and Juventus Coach Antonio Conte to guide their path. However, the title hopes for Juventus could be negatively impacted if Federico Chiesa is offloaded to any of the handful of clubs clamouring for his services.
The season is fresh, with lots of questions to be answered. The Scudetto is up for grabs and with Inter Milan’s impressive win last season, with five games remaining, they may put up a successful defense of the crown, but Juventus is seeking their 37th hold on the title and this should be a dog fight.
Spain (La Liga)
La Liga is one of the world’s most entertaining soccer leagues, but the champion should once again come down to the league’s two true giants, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Between them, they have finished first in nine of the last 10 La Liga seasons, and there is no evidence to suggest that the trend is going to change this year.
It is no surprise that Real Madrid, the defending champions, who have now added Kylian Mbappé to their ranks, are the overwhelming JustBet favourites. After teaming Mbappé with Vinícius Junior and Jude Bellingham in an attempt to claim back-to-back crown, the preseason odds are hardly surprising.
For Barcelona, Robert Lewandowski, while still a top-class striker, is not as young as he used to be, and Ilkay Gundogan, with the recent arrival of Dani Olmo, has requested to be traded, so Hansi Flick will have some things to consider. However, teenage phenom Lamine Yamal is fast developing into one of the best players in the world, and there is still a bundle of quality in the Barcelona locker room, despite some gaps.
Atlético Madrid spent big in an effort to crash the “El Clásico” party, after slipping to fourth last season behind third placed Girona. Their high-profile additions include: Argentinian star Julián Álvarez (an US$83-million deal with Manchester City), striker Alexander Sørloth (US$35 million) and defender Robin Le Normand (US$38 million). Additionally, Valencia and Sevilla will want to redeem themselves after disappointing placings last season, ninth and fourteenth, respectively.
Logic suggests that the crown is Real Madrid‘s to lose, despite optimistic enthusiasm for the challengers, but the season is long, with many months between now and May 2025.
