D’Angel gives back
As a new school year approaches, dancehall artiste D’Angel — through her non-profit foundation — is looking to donate supplies to 500 students come August 30 at Spanish Town Municipal Park in St Catherine.
“Giving back is a gift from God, so it’s very important to be kind and generous. Sometimes the little you do for someone in need goes a long way, and through Angel’s Foundation, that’s managed by myself and my son Marco-Dean Davis, we continue to change lives and bring smiles to people’s faces,” the singer whose given name is Michelle Downer told the
Jamaica Observer.
Through her foundation D’Angel has been giving back to students and the elderly for the past eight years. At the last back-to-school drive the entertainer distributed some 350 school bags, along with stationery and school shoes.
This year she intends to distribute every kind of stationery and other essentials that schoolchildren will need.
D’Angel is calling on other members in the music fraternity and the wider population to help those in need, as much as possible.
“[M]y mission is to always be an example, not only to my coworkers to take on this initiative, but I’m encouraging everyone to adopt a community as long as you have the resources. I’m from Spanish Town, born and raised, so that’s my choice of place to have my landmark for my charitable works from care packages, back-to-school drives, building homes for the elderly, helping with prosthetic legs, and so much more. Those are some of works I’ve been actively doing,” she said.
In March, D’Angel received a Special Community/Humanitarian Award at the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) at Lauderhill Performing Arts Centre in Florida.
