Windies skipper Matthews remains world’s best T20 all-rounder
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (CMC) — West Indies Women’s Captain Hayley Matthews is still the best female T20 all-rounder in the world.
In the latest rankings released by the ICC on Sunday, Matthews sits comfortably at the top of the table on 524 points, three less than her career high of 527 points.
Despite going wicketless in a three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka in June, which the West Indies won 2-1, Matthews averaged 39 with the bat, scoring 78 runs in the final two matches after missing the series opener.
The 26-year-old Barbadian is well ahead of the second-ranked Asleigh Gardiner of Australia who has 401 points.
India’s Deepti Sharma is close behind in third on 396 points, Amelia Kerr of New Zealand is fourth on 379 points, while Chamari Athapaththu of Sri Lanka brings up the top five with 330 points.
Afy Fletcher is the next-highest West Indian on the list at number 29 on 134 points, while Stafanie Taylor is 36th on 120 points.
Matthews moved up one spot to sixth on the T20 batting rankings and is also third on the T20 batting rankings on 746 points, behind Australia’s Beth Mooney (769 points) and Tahlia McGrath (762 points).
